It is a documentation of the famous Dominican typography "BANCA," created in the '90s by Lolo Jackson. It was captured in typography design by Modafoca, a design studio based in the Dominican Republic. This typography resembles the Chicagraphic of Peru.
Nowadays, most of the lottery banks in the country no longer use this design due to modernization and the fact that the big lottery chains have their branding and little by little, they have been disappearing from the streets of the country. Those who use this design are independent lottery bank owners. Therefore, to find them, you have to go to the neighborhoods of the city or to the countryside, where there are few well-known brands of lottery banks.
When a Dominican thinks of the word "Banca," they see the representative colors of the typography: green, yellow, pink, orange, blue, and glitter. I grew up seeing this style around the city, and now that I have become interested in typography when I see an "old style" bank lottery, I realize that they have been disappearing.
The Banca typography has been transforming, and each artist based on the original has created a different style, although the original is still more predominant. My goal is to document this aspect of Dominican culture so that it is not forgotten with the modernization of the industry.
